KATHMANDU: If you want to worship centuries-old Pashupatinath temple in Nepal and cannot afford to visit there, just go online.

For the first time, the administration here has made the arrangements for Internet worshipping at the Pashupatinath temple, one of the eight holiest Hindu shrines.

"We are making necessary arrangements for Internet worshipping at the Pashupatinath temple, which will begin very soon," said Parmananada Shakya, member secretary of the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) which manages the temple affairs.

The devotees can register their prayer through Internet by paying necessary amount through credit card, he said at a press conference here on Thursday.

"The prasad and flowers will be sent to the client through courier," Shakya said, adding this will give devotees all over the world access to the Pashupatinath Temple.

However, the rates and detailed procedures for the Internet worshipping are being worked out, he said.

The PADT has already initiated technical works to start the Internet worshipping at the holy shrine.

Located on the banks of the Bagmati river, Pashupatinath temple is regarded as the most sacred temple of Shiva (Pashupati) and the oldest Hindu shrine in Nepal.

The fifth century temple is also listed in UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site list.
