Attacks on Indian Students in Australia
The attack on Indian students in Melbourne has had a major impact on the Indian Community here in Australia. After reports showing that there was a attack on significant number of Indian students, the Indian community supported by other nationality communities have taken the protest to the streets.
They protested in Melbourne 31st May 09 at The Federation Square in the heart of the city. Reports say that a large number of people had gathered to participate in the protest. Many students were seen carrying placards and many more shouting out slogans protesting against the Australian government. One of the slogan even said "Racism Down Under".
There is a atmosphere of fear in the hearts of the family members back home. I was told by one of my Indian work mate that he receives distressed calls from his parents asking him to come back.
The Indian community claims that it is an attack of Racist Manner.
The Indain community was furious when they heard that one of the victim was told by the police not to speak in their mother tongue when using piblic transport. They say that this is a racist comment.
Police have increased police petrol and said they would take matters seriously.
There are reports that the Indian community supported by other national communities will also protest in Sydney at Town Hall, George St. Sydney.
In the Nepalese community here in Australia there also has been reports of students being attacked, robbed and ***aulted. Yet, in my opinion, I think this kind of attack is being neglected by the community leaders. The Nepalese community has not accepted these attacks as racist attacks but just victims or cir***stances.
Finally it is left with the individuals to decide whether this is seriously a matter of ratical violence or just incidences that just happened to happen together.

we strongly offend it.
Australia however is a much better place to live in when it comes to such matters but I think the gov should do more to protect International Students because we are these people's easiest targets.
