It has been drawn to our attention that there has been alleged allegations against Nepali community members for trying to rig the upcoming NRN Australia elections which is going to be held on the 11th July 09.

The allegation has been made by enepalnews.com stating that there has been inappropriate measures undertaken in order to win the election by some of the candidates. The online media site claims that it has information specially for one particular Mr. Bhawani Oli who is increasing the member strength of NRN Australia drastically and fraudulently over a short period of time with intentions to bring about personal benefit. The online media site released it's article under the title of "NRN Chunab Jitne Bihari Dhandhali Suru". In this note, they inquire as to how the number of members increased from 200 to 2700 in a short period of time and that too in the time of election. They also claim that some of the members are the ones that do not live in Australia anymore. Naming and shaming Nepali education consultancy here in Australia and calling them "brokers of students". They claim that Mr.Oli has used the student database from his education consultancy to increase the number of members that too without the consent of the students.

The Australian Nepali community members and Mr. Oli himself have denied these accusations. They have challenged the website by asking them to provide proof to support their allegations. Mr.Oli has said in his letter that he will not hesitate to take legal actions against the website for defamation. He had given 3 days for the proof to be brought forward but there has been no reports of the proof as of yet.

NRN Australia in it's press release said that it was unethical to point finger at a respectable member of the community without any proof. It has said that this matter will be taken seriously and an investigation comity will be formed to get to the bottom and find out the real culprits. NRNA has said that if this issue is really true then they will also bring the election to a hold until proper legal actions are taken.

PRESS RELEASE ON DEFAMING NEWS

Dear NRN Activists, Community Leaders and Members,

I would like to draw your serious attention to the news published on 15 June 2009 in an online news site with a heading NRN CHUNAB JITNA BIHARI DHANDHALI SURU.

   1. The heading and contents of the news is baseless and is aimed at destroying the re***tion of NRNA, Australia and myself. The published news is simply fraudulent and posted with ill intention.
   2. I would like to challenge the online newspaper and its correspondent to prove the dirty and ill feted allegation about me within three days. If it is not proved or if its KHANDAN is not published in the news site within three days, appropriate legal action will be initiated in the case of defamation and the news site and / or its Australian correspondent will be brought into justice.
   3. Accusation made to me in the news is completely misleading and guided by ill intention to defame my re***tion. I was in my official tour to Tasmania in the week leading to closing date of membership registration (in which most of the new applications were reportedly lodged) to attend meeting organised by University of Tasmania in Hobart & Lounceston.
   4. I am fully aware about my role as a member of the cons***ution committee at ICC level, coordinator of cons***ution amendment committee at NCC level and acting coordinator of award nomination judge committee. I have always followed the applicable code of conduct and have maintained high level of ethical and moral standard all the time personally, organisationally and professionally.
   5. If any one can prove that I have used my data base to make even a single member or my involvement in making dozy members, I will present myself for any kind of punishment before the community.
   6. I have been continuously contributing for the establishment, promotion and protection of NRNA, Australia since its inception morally, intellectually, physically and financially. I did all these without holding or demanding any executive position in NRNA, Australia. My devotion and continuous involvement in NRNA activities is guided by my only interest of ins***utionalising the ***ociation in Australia and globally.    
   7. Apart from my involvement in NRNA movement, I have made significant contribution from the best of my ability and resources to ***ist Sydney based Nepali community and their organisations in all the way I can.  I believe that Nepali social organisations and the Nepali community in Sydney acknowledge my contribution to the community.
   8. I challenge the CHUDRA reporters and white coloured individuals behind the baseless news to come forward in the community with your real face and iden***y. If you do not dare to show up in the community, it is in your best interest to stop this kind of defaming and criminal activities. Otherwise, there will not be any option left before me other than taking appropriate legal action against you. Australian police are capable of detecting and bringing you under justice.

It is the responsibility of president of NRNA, Australia to stand firmed and strong in protecting the organisation and its activists if he and his team have maintained the overall integrity of membership registration process. However, any officially reported irre***rities are to be investigated and decided based on evidences immediately after the receipt of complaint. I ask the president of NRNA, Australia Mr. Goba Katuwal to take action against me if you hold any evidence of my unethical involvement in the membership race. Otherwise, I demand your statement categorically addressing the issues raised in the news report about me. It is your duty to protect the integrity and re***tion of the organisation and its activists as a president of the ***ociation.       
   2. I would like to request all the members of the community and community organisation to react through an individual or organisational statement on the baseless and damaging news and ***ist in collecting evidences against the persons involved in this kind of unethical and immoral practice. They have targeted me and NRNA, Australia this time. They may target you and your organisation next time. We should not allow this kind of practice and people to prevail in the community.

Dear Community Members,

We would like to inform you that there has been few informal complain and rumours among our community members about the membership activities in recent weeks. NRN Australia would like to ***ure all our community members that we are seriously committed on maintaining the integrity of our organisation and bound by Australian Jurisdiction, NRN Cons***ution, NRN Code of conduct and our own professional ethics and personal moral.  Our goal, in addition to the objectives of NRN, is to maintain the highest possible level of standard within the organisation and try to be role model for other organisations and individuals.  To achieve this goal, we need to act as per our guidelines, code of conduct and we also need to properly address the concerns our community members raise.

Therefore, we would like to resolve these disputes in a proper and professional manner. As far as handling of the member’s application concern, we have very strong and transparent internal control system where any single individual can’t manipulate the data in his/her favour. There is work flow system on approving the member, which has been working fine and we have not noticed any problem using this system.

There have also been some reports of ‘bulk’ membership application without the consent of the applicant. If this is true, we consider this activity as serious breach of our code of conduct, NRN cons***ution and after all Australian law. In this case, we would like to take appropriate action and refer to law enforcement authorities if it deemed necessary.

As a responsible en***y, we cannot act on some individual’s allegation without any proof or on market rumours.  We would like to request all of our community members to be responsible and accountable for the accusations they make towards any other individuals or en***y as false allegations might damage involved parties re***tion in different level.
Hence, we would like to request to provide us information on such irre***rities if they had occurred with as much as information.  We also request to supply us some proof or witnesses on such case so we can verify the validity of the claim.
